Artist JR wins TED prize for his stunning work

I have been following this artist's work for many years as he transforms the urban realm with oversized imagery usually with a political message. I expect to see this idea stepping into more permanent built form as architects look for ways to add texture and meaning to man made materials.

GUERILLA STREET ART: Amazing Scratched Building Portraits

Historically texture and colour on the exterior of our buildings has come from natural materials such as brick and stone. As we move toward zero carbon buildings more construction will use insulated panel systems. Will we see monolithic solid rendered forms dominating the cityscape, will we stick on classical elements for textural relief or will CNC technology allow us to use building surfaces to tell stories like many of the heavily ornate stone buildings of history?
