Kinetic facades

I wrote a few weeks ago about what we could do with the excess power generated by solar power and that maybe buildings would begin to respond dynamically to their environments. Thermal shutters are one idea...

Carbon Nanotubes Could Create Buildings That Move

On our Creekside Arcade project we proposed solar controlled thermal shutters. With yet another example of nanotechnology and carbon nanotubes it might be possible to achieve this without using mechanical motors!

Rotating wooden house

Nature is dynamic, responding to changing conditions whether it be a flower opening and closing its petals or a tree growing in a different direction to get better exposure to the sun. If solar panels result in excess energy being produced should buildings have kinetic facades enabling truly site responsive architecture?
