Digital 'Life'

This video shows a highly plausible prediction of the future where networked home appliances tap into our digital social networks to predict and potentially shape our mood and home requirements.

Facebook enables a person to keep in touch with numerous social groups simultaneously while applications such as Foursquare enable real-time locating of individual people. This technology begins to form a database of your personality as shaped by your friends and surroundings. From this database we will see the birth of digital personalities, much like HAL in 2001:Space Odyssey, tailored to compliment your own mood and requirements. How is this going to affect our relationships with one another in the future and the environments we live in?

Building with insulation

Construction is too complicated. What we need is a structural bio foam which could be sprayed out in layers to create a building form. A computer could assess the structural stability as the foam form 'grows' and services would be routered out internally to suit.

Below is a structure which has been sprayed with foam inside and out for insulation which makes one think about future possibilities...

Floating 3D virtual objects appear at British Library

The arrival of new BIM software such as Revit is a big shift in the way architect's design. Fully integrated 3D models combining structure, services and building fabric should enable better co-ordination between consultants. With CNC technology, rapid prototype printers and now 3D virtual displays will we see an improvement in architecture from the days of using a drawing board and if not, why not?

TDK unveils flexible OLED display at CEATEC

With technologies developing rapidly in flexible OLED displays how long before we have digital contact lenses? To what extent will the virtual world effect the way we integrate with the built environment?

In less than 20 years the Internet and mobile technology has led to significant changes in lifestyle and a reduction in the time periods we expect information to be transferred. How has this effected the built environment and to what extent will future changes in technology effect the way we live, work and play?
