The Vertical Farm: Does It Make Sense?

I haven't had a chance to read this book yet but hydroponics were something we explored as part of our Creekside arcade project. As population growth increases an architect's main role in society is to find new ways of housing more people on to smaller pieces of land. With the green belt and farmland under threat from construction it is inevitable that farms will eventually go vertical.

Integrating nature within the built environment makes sense from an environmental and psychological perspective but one has to ask is an ever increasing human population a sustainable concept?
